"YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE. CHOOSE TO WIN!"
COLOSSIANS 3:23 WHATEVER YOU DO, WORK AT IT WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AS WORKING FOR THE LORD!
Recently my wife and I were driving home from a date when I saw something that you don't see everyday. As we approached a house that sat nestled in the woods, I saw a man running on a treadmill in his front yard. I must have had a perplexed look on my face for the next minute as I tried to figure out what I had just seen. But no sooner had the look gone from my face I spotted something up ahead along the road. As we drew closer I could not believe my eyes. Not 50 feet from the county road a bald eagle stood in all its glory. We were able to slow down and get really close before it took flight. I watched it out my side window as it soared into the air.
I have no idea why the man decided to run in place yesterday but I can’t help but wonder if he would have chosen to run down his road if he knew what he would have seen and experienced. Maybe he had supper cooking? Maybe he was waiting on a phone call? But whatever the reason he missed out on an amazing opportunity to see God’s beautiful creation.
How many times have you chosen to run in place in your life? We can get so comfortable and cozy in our little worlds that we make. We may have a pretty house and a pretty car and we may be running here and there but are we really going anywhere? Chasing after the things of this life is like running on a treadmill. No matter how hard you work and no matter how long you go, you really never get anywhere. You may experience a temporary high from running on it but that treadmill will wear you down. Eventually you will probably get bored of running on it and you will resort to all sorts of things to keep things new and different like moving the treadmill outside. But if you step off the treadmill and start running toward God, you will never grow tired and you will see amazing things. And the amazing things you see and experience here are just a foretaste of what is to come. Isaiah 40:31 "but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
